Today, I am showcasing a snippet from my sweet medieval romance – A Voice in the Air.

Scene Set – What is in the cave with Ewen?

Excerpt -

When Ewen woke, he searched the cave. His hands pretending to be his eyes, feeling what he could not see. Dry. Hard. Rock. Dirt. Bone.

Bone. His heart thudded in his chest. Fear flowed through him. A bone meant death. Something or someone had died. He didn’t want to die. Not here. In the dark. Alone.

Fuelled by terror, he’d heaved the vile thing, only to have it bounce off an unseen wall and smack him in the head. Running his fingers over it, he decided to keep it. It was long. Hard. And possibly could be a weapon. Not as splendid as a knight’s blade, but it was all he had.

“Uh.”

The moan was soft, but he heard it. And he recognized it. Someone made that sound. A man. Not a troll.

“Good morrow.” he called out.

No response.

“I am Squire Ewen of Plucks Ridge.”

Silence.

“I am imprisoned here. Who are ye? Can ye speak?” Ewen tilted his head to the side.

“Oi.” The sound was low.

Ewen sat up taller. He was right. There was someone else in the cave. “Again. Louder. So I can find ye.”
