Check this book out - the day before Release Day - Daryl Devore's What Happened in Bangkok on this week's #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor #hotread

Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. It's a chance each week for you the reader to discover current WIP or previously published book by possibly new to you authors.

Today, I am showcasing a snippet from my latest re-release – What Happened in Bangkok

Tomorrow is release day – or actually – re-release. I received the rights back for this book and the other 2 in the trilogy.

Scene Set – Adult Content  - This is the opening scene.

Droplets of blood seeped from Darien's wolf tattoo, mesmerizing him. They trickled over the inside of his bicep, splattering against the bar floor.

Darien ran his hand back through his hair and frowned. Why was the wolf bleeding? It was supposed to look sexy. Turn chicks on. Not bleed. He blinked as a thought formed. Maybe it wasn't the tattoo. Could he be bleeding? He didn't remember getting hurt. But that might be because he'd had too many vodka shots.

Expensive gold-infused vodka.

An order snapped out in Thai ripped his focus away from the cost of the booze.

Stumbling with the translation, his gut clenched - Check everyone. Anybody alive. Kill them.

A shrill female scream. A gunshot. Silence.

That'd be one of the hookers. Damn. Hope it wasn't the one with the butterfly tattoo above her clit. She had a mouth on her that performed miracles. Dude! What the fuck! Must be the vodka talking. Stay focused. There are guys with guns out there.

Darien stretched his neck out and peered around the edge of the bar. In his line of vision, a male leg stuck out from under a table. Expensive looking shoe. Presumably Italian leather. Probably belonged to Nai Jâhng.

Darien raised his eyebrows. Wow. Somebody had the balls to kill a Triad boss.

He shifted his glance. A few feet to the left lay a female arm with brilliant orange fingernails. He shivered at the memory of those nails grazing his balls. He focused on a tiny object a foot in front of him. Shards of glass were scattered about. He frowned, trying to remember what happened. He'd walked behind the private club's bar to get another bottle of vodka when, one by one, bottles started exploding. Next thing he knew, he was on the floor, looking at the blood dripping from his tattoo. He glanced at his arm. The bleeding had stopped.

Okay, so he wasn't gonna bleed to death. Good. Now he just had to get his dumbass outta there. Past them. The guys with the guns. How the fuck could he do that?

To save Darien's life his brother asks, "Can you walk in high heels?"

Erika Bailey, owner/manager of a drag queen club in Bangkok, Thailand has happily settled into all aspects of her new life, except for her lack of a love life. When a new diva auditions, Erika is bewildered over her instant attraction to the blond God, Apollo.

Darien Scott is on vacation after a world tour and mistakenly figures the safest place to be is at The Black Dragon with the head of a Triad. When the club is hit, Darien is the only person to get out alive. Now he's running from the police and a Triad. Mistake number 1.

Disguised as a drag queen, he's hired by Erika, but falls hard for his new boss, then struggles with not coming clean with her. Mistake number 2.

Can he fix his mistakes and find a life filled with love or is he headed straight for mistake number 3?

Jenna equates her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can't stop. Only Seduction Will Do by Jenna Jaxon #romance #historical #JennaJaxon

I am super excited to have friend and fabulous author – JENNA JAXON – on my blog today with her latest romance – Only Seduction Will Do. Just look at that cover – wow!!!

“I spoke with Braeton about it when we signed the settlements. He suggested we journey to Knowlton’s Keep for a few weeks’ time. A place we could be alone and become acquainted.”

“Knowlton’s Keep?” Astonished, Alethea stopped in the middle of bringing her wine glass to her lips. She’d traveled there with Eithne and Braeton last summer. To put it bluntly, there was nothing to do there.

“Your cousin believed time alone together would be good for us, together yet apart from the Society. He certainly painted the ancient castle as a treasure for those seeking solitude from the world.”

“Well, that much is true.” Laying her napkin on the table, Alethea clasped her hands in her lap. Lord, the thought of going back to Sussex filled her with loathing.

“You object to the Keep?” Jack’s eyebrows shot up almost to his hairline.

“No, not at all.” Of course she did. But she wouldn’t voice that to her husband. “Merely startled. I’ve only been there in the summer. It may be drastically different in winter.”

“I’m sure we’ll manage to stay warm.” His eyes twinkled and he raised his wine glass, his gaze never wavering from her face.

Heat touched her cheeks. It might have been the wine she’d already drunk, but she didn’t think so. She seized her wine glass and raised it to her lips. Tonight would be awkward. She was prepared for that. As long as he was at least somewhat gentle, she’d get through it. The first time had been bad, but that had been her own fault. Excitement bubbled up in her, despite her misgivings. The night wouldn’t be perfect, but it would get better.

Dinner flew by in a flurry of meats, vegetables, salad, and at last small white iced cakes for dessert. Alethea at least tasted everything, but lost her appetite about halfway through the courses. At last the footman removed their dessert plates and Jack took her hand.

“Let us retire, my dear. We have quite a journey tomorrow.”

Suddenly shy, she nodded and rose, her mouth dry. She took his arm and tried to still her trembling hands as he led her back up the stairs. She’d been dreaming of this moment almost since she’d met this gorgeous man. And now he would be hers, in name as well as in the flesh. Breath quickening the closer they got to her apartment, Alethea tried holding it to calm herself. Anything to keep from fainting.

He stopped outside her apartment, opened the door and faced her.

Her heart beat fast then slow, unable to make up its mind which suited it best.

“May I come in, Alethea?”

She swallowed hard, expecting this of course, wanting this, just not quite so soon. She hadn’t prepared… “Of course, my…Jack. If you would allow me some little time to prepare for …”

“You can get ready for bed when I’ve left.”

Casting a wild glance into the room, searching desperately for Clemons, Alethea could think of nothing to do, so she smiled back at him. What could she do now? Allow him simply to come in? What if Clemons appeared? What if he wanted to watch her disrobe? And just how was she to accomplish that without assistance?

“I don’t quite know how…I mean, I’ll need to get ready for you if…”

His eyebrows rose. “Oh, I’m sorry, my dear.” His voice was gentle but firm. “I see you are under the wrong impression. We have not had time to talk properly.” He clasped his hands behind his back. “Despite our nuptials this morning, we will not be sharing intimacies tonight.”

Jenna Jaxon is a best-selling author of historical romance, writing in a variety of time periods because she believes that passion is timeless. She has been reading and writing historical romance since she was a teenager. A romantic herself, Jenna has always loved a dark side to the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise. She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her own stories.

She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets--including two vocal cats, one almost silent cat, a Sharpei-beagle mix (Sharp-eagle), and a very curious bunny.

When not reading or writing, she indulges her passion for the theatre as a director. She often feels she is directing her characters on their own private stage.

Jenna equates her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can't stop.

My unit was attacked, leaving every soldier with the option to fight our way out or die. I was one of the lucky few that made it—but not without battle scars. Half my body is scorched and blistered, the pain is unbearable. I can’t imagine anyone will want to look at me, much less be with me, after this... until I meet Lexi. She came to visit her brother and stayed when she realized I have no one. He’s helping me work through the grief of losing my husband. But the day of his release is fast approaching. Our feelings for each other are undeniable. Will what’s between us last outside the hospital walls? Or will the emotional and physical scars we both carry destroy our chance at a fresh start?

If anything can crack through the darkness rooted within me, it’s the warmth of her beauty.

I didn’t know Easton joined the military until the day he walked into Oakside where I work. With therapy dogs and a delicate touch, I’ve helped countless veterans. Never one this close to my heart. Easton isn’t the boy I once knew anymore. All he’s endured has made him retreat inside himself. Can I help him coax him back out into the light? Or will some part of him forever be a prisoner to his pain?

She is mortal? The Last Dragon by Daryl Devore on Weekend Writing Warriors #WeWrWa #8Sunday #medieval #fantasy #romance

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors! Where writers share an 8- 10 sentence snippet of their writing on Sunday.  Visit other participants on the list and read and comment on their 8sunday posts.

Spread the word. Twitter hashtag #8sunday.

This week's 8-10 sentences are from my medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon

Scene set – Hawkyns is chatting with the Abbot. He is confused about the vision he saw when he first arrived in this new village. Remember – he doesn’t know how he got there. The 2 men suspect he was dropped by a dragon. Hawkyns speaks first.

“I saw… an angel. She placed her hands on me. The pain vanished.”

The abbot raised his hand to pause their conversation. He walked to a monk who waited nearby, spoke to him then returned. He settled himself on the bench. “No, my son, I am sorry, truly sorry, but ye did not see an angel.”

“But her halo.” Hawkyns circled his head with his hand. “A circle of gold behind her. Like the paintings in our abbey at Penrythe.”

A wee bit more

The abbot rested his hands on his lap. “The lass is Derry. She is a healer. She has powers. Ones given by God.” He made the sign of the cross and returned his hand to his lap. “I heal souls and relieve minds. She can heal bodies.”

She is mortal? A familiar stirring woke inside Hawkyns; a feeling absent since the day of his wife’s death.

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.

A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.

Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his fathers kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child - dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.

Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.

Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.

Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?
