Just because some days everyone could use a little humour. #humor #humour

I really do suck at poetry. I am in a local writers group and there is a gentleman who is an amazing poet. What he can do with words astounds me.

But this meme is more my style of poetry.

As long as The Pink Flamingo was still standing when she got back, she'd be happy. Daryl Devore's What Darien Desires is on Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor #hotread

Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. It's a chance each week for you the reader to discover current WIP or previously published book by possibly new to you authors.

I am showcasing a snippet from Book 2 of my Rock Star Trilogy – What Darien Desires.

 Scene Set –
Erika is flying from Thailand to NY to spend some time with him.
Last week ended with Darien stating - she didn't get off the plane.

England! Erika stepped out of Heathrow Airport and shimmied. She loved England. Fabulous childhood memories. A tinge of guilt nagged at her, but she'd convinced herself that Darien could deal with a one day later arrival. He'd be happy to know she was treating herself to something fabulous. She snorted. Or as her divas would say, "Fab-U-lous!"

She'd sent Darien a text, so at least he wouldn't waste his time driving to the airport. After all, he'd paid for the first-class ticket. It'd be rude not to let him know where she was. The change in her itinerary hadn't cost her much, and she so wanted this gift for herself, so she could be stress-free and at her best for Darien. That worry was erased with happiness as she stood soaking in the locale, listening to accents and grinning.

For the first time in about two years, she wasn't in Thailand. Not that she didn't love living in such an exotic country, but it was always good to get away and charge up the batteries.

Looking down the row of hotel shuttle buses, she located hers, The Victoria by the Park, and boarded. She tucked her luggage on the rack and settled onto a window seat on the right side of the shuttle. Families trudged past her. Parents with two young children sat behind her. The children were wide-eyed with curiosity. The parents looked exhausted. Businessmen passed her, busy on their cell phones, glancing up long enough to find a seat and continue texting.

Her hand edged toward her purse, but she caught herself. She wasn't going to bury her nose in her cell. She'd sent a message to Darien. Well, she was pretty sure she had. The phone seemed to hiccup just as she hit send. That last update had wreaked havoc on her cell. Maybe she should check? She frowned and scolded herself. She didn't need to know if there was a crisis at the club. Stewart and Brian could handle whatever came up. As long as The Pink Flamingo was still standing when she got back, she'd be happy.

You loved What Happened in Bangkok and want to know what happens next….

It's complicated is not only her relationship status, but the definition of Erika Bailey's life. She loves managing her drag queen club in Bangkok, Thailand, but her rock star boyfriend resides in North Carolina. And to top it off, her father threatens she must stay away from Darien or lose the Pink Flamingo. Does she protect her club or her love?

Darien Scott, Grammy award winning international superstar, wants nothing more than to wake up in the arms of Erika, the woman he loves, but contractual obligations force him to exotic video shoots and an isolated movie set with one of Hollywood's sexiest stars.

With the feeding frenzy of social media trending every aspect of Darien's life—real or not—it's hard for Erika to know the truth. Will she be able to see through the lies and trust Darien? Or will evidence from damaging Internet rumors condemn their relationship?

Daryl Devore talks about genre shaming on the Open Book Blog Hop. #OpenBook Blog Hop, OpenBook #writers

Welcome to the Open Book Blog Hop! This week’s theme - Have you experienced or witnessed genre shaming, where readers/authors degrade a genre? If so, how do you deal with it?

Oh good heavens, yes. I write romance. The most shamed genre there is. I teach a beginner writers course at the local library, and I don’t mention my genre until several weeks into the course. And after I point out what I write, I then say – And now, I’ve probably lost the respect of half of you in the class.

And from watching their faces, I know that to be true. Why don’t they know what genre I write? Daryl Devore is my pen name. They know me by my real name. I won’t tell them my pen name. Not because I am ashamed of what I write, but because I am there to teach them about “writing”, not to try and sell my books.

When someone on Twitter/FaceBook etc insults romance, I laugh and move on. Numerous other writers will rage on in defence of romance. The detractors will counter. Blood pressures will rise.

I have better things to do. Like go bake chocolate chip cookies.

His blood is the blood I want to rinse from my hands. Daryl Devore's The Last Dragon on #WeWrWa #8Sunday #medieval #fantasy #romance

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors! Where writers share an 8- 10 sentence snippet of their writing on Sunday.  Visit other participants on the list and read and comment on their 8sunday posts.

Spread the word. Twitter hashtag #8sunday.

This week's 8-10 sentences are from my medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon

Scene set – Hawkyns, Derry and Pariset secreted the pregnant Mirth to the abbey to deliver her baby in safety.

It came out with a whoosh. He held the newborn in his hands, unable to move or speak.

Mirth dropped back onto the cot. Sweat dripped from her. “Is she… he…”

A wail snapped Hawkyns from his reverie. He laid the babe in her mother’s arms.

“She is here? So soon?” Derry’s voice startled him. He turned. Derry pressed him towards the door. “Out. Ye have done yer job. There are things I must see to.”

A wee bit more

Relieved to be freed from such terrifying confusion Hawkyns walked to the abbot’s rose garden and settled on a bench. The air was calm. The night was warm. He looked down at his blood covered hands. Many times his hands had been bloodied. Sometimes they had caused death. Other times, they held a friend on the edge of death. But this moment was blessed. He had held new life. Joy and grief swept through him. Joy for the birth mixed with grief at his loss. The tears streaming down his cheeks were in anguish for the child he would never hold. His son. Damnation to the dragon that stole them. His blood is the blood I want to rinse from my hands.

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.

A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.

Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his fathers kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child - dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.

Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.

Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.

Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?

Cat gives this one 5 Meows with a 4 Purr heat index...

I loved this twisted Fairy tale. it was enough of the original but had a very unique take. I loved that Robin Hood was a female and Robin Hood was a very likable character. Maid Marian was a mister and millionaire, so you also get a good millionaire tale as well if that is a favorite genre for you.  There is a lot of twists, seems that disaster follows Robyn and lots of humor as well.

I loved this story for beginning to end. It is very steamy, but it added to the overall romance and the humor helped. It is perfectly balanced. If you like Fairy Tales, thieves, millionaire/ billionaires, Robin Hood, humor, hot sex and romance this is for you!
