Cate Kensie Mysteries Book 1
by Nellie H. Steele

How in the world could she now own a castle?

Shy, introverted Dr. Cate Kensie never imagined that she would inherit a beautiful, and oddly quirky, castle nestled in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Truthfully, she was sure that she didn’t have any family left after her parents died in a car accident several years before, but then she had gotten the phone call, and her entire world had turned upside down.

That was when she discovered that she had family in Scotland, and her distant family member, Gertrude MacKenzie, had passed away, leaving her Dunhaven Castle and a golden timepiece with the mysterious phone call: ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TIME.

Soon after she leaves the only life she’s ever known in the US with her four-legged best friend, the adorable Riley, she quickly finds that owning this castle is not the fairytale she expected. Mysterious events occur that leave Cate wondering if her new home is haunted or if she’s losing her mind.
Will Cate be able to unravel the mysteries of Dunhaven Castle before it’s too late? Or will the secrets be too much for Cate to handle?

Find out if Cate can uncover the secrets her new home holds in The Secret of Dunhaven Castle!

Murder at Dunhaven Castle
Cate Kensie Mysteries Book 2

If you could go back in time and clear your family’s name, would you?

Dr. Cate Kensie, now known as Lady Catherine Kensie, the mistress of Dunhaven Castle, still can’t believe her life. Somehow, moved to Scotland, inherited a castle that’s more than meets the eye, and is the proud--and sometimes reluctant-- owner of an amazing family heirloom. But there’s a secret Cate must protect about her new life, a secret that no one but Jack Reid, the estate manager, knows of.

As Cate learns more about her new home, she discovers that in 1856 there was a murder at Dunhaven and non-other than her own ancestor, Randolph MacKenzie, was accused and convicted of the crime. However, the more she learns about the murder at Dunhaven, the more confusing things become. All of the evidence is there, but the answers still don’t add up.

Will Cate have the courage to dive into a centuries-old murder to clear her family’s name? Or will she find out the hard way that sometimes it’s best to leave the past in the past where it can’t hurt you?
Find out in the nail-biting second installment of the Cate Kensie Mysteries series, Murder at Dunhaven Castle!

Holiday Heist at Dunhaven Castle
Cate Kensie Mysteries Book 3

Cate knew she had seen those jewels before.

As her eyes scanned the newspaper article from 1925, she is shocked to read about the theft of two priceless necklaces from her family’s home. When Cate recognizes one of the stolen necklaces from when she traveled back in time to the year 1856 to solve a murder mystery, Cate knows there’s only one thing left for her to do. Despite the hectic holiday season approaching, complete with two grand holiday events, Cate must travel to 1925 and unravel the mystery surrounding the jewelry theft.

However, things take an unexpected turn when she arrives. As Cate discovers more unanswered questions, she starts to wonder if there’s a piece to the puzzle she has yet to uncover.

While Cate and estate manager, Jack, try to unravel the puzzle in the past, another mystery brews in the present for Cate. Strange and eerie nightmares centered around a bookcase in Dunhaven Castle’s library disrupt Cate’s sleep, rattling her mind even during her waking hours. She wonders if these are connected to the jewelry theft or if something darker lurks in Dunhaven’s halls.

Can Cate solve the mysterious theft of her family’s jewelry? Will the bookcase hold the secrets to the past? If it does, will Cate be able to decipher the clues on its shelves? Or is there something more sinister at work in Dunhaven Castle?

Find out if Cate has what it takes to solve the newest mysteries at Dunhaven Castle in Holiday Heist at Dunhaven Castle, book three of the riveting cozy mystery series Cate Kensie Mysteries.

A snippet from Daryl Devore's newly released medieval fantasy romance - The Last Dragon #medieval #fantasy #romance #TheLastDragon

Excerpt

When the first ray of the morning sun crossed the sill of the little cottage's window, Derry opened her eyes. Light. She loved light. It banished the cold, foul darkness that haunted her dreams. She let out a yawn and stretched. The ancient with whom she shared the lone bed shifted and continued to snore.

Derry slid her feet over the edge of the bed and stood. Crossing the room, she picked up her skirt and blouse, dressed and while lacing her top, tiptoed to the curtained doorway. With a flick of her hand, she brushed the curtain aside and stepped into the main area of the cottage.

The sun's rays peeked around the corner of the far window, lightening the room. Derry wrapped her fingers around the woven basket handle which rested on the small eating table and exited the cottage, being careful to shut the door as not to waken the old woman. With a quick movement, she tied her headscarf to the handle, inhaled a deep breath and released it with a joyful shake of her body.

With a jubilant spring in her step, Derry hurried along the cool sand to the path leading up the side of the cliff. On one of her afternoon searches for firewood she’d noticed a patch of late summer berries. If the birds hadn't ravaged it, there would be a sweet treat for breakfast. Climbing up the low rise, she stepped onto the dewy grass. A small cloud slipped past the sun and the day awakened with a brilliant glow. The deep sounds of the village's early morning Angelus bell floated through the air.

Derry paused and looked out towards the ocean. Today it was calm with gentle rolling waves. Gulls soared overhead, their loud squawks announcing their presence. She glanced down the cliff at the little cottage nestled on a tuft of land and rocks. No smoke drifted from the chimney. The ancient was still asleep.

Turning to her task, Derry ambled along the rough path, humming and enjoying a beautiful morning. She paused. A thought niggled at the back of her mind. There was something different about the meadow. Her brow wrinkled as she looked towards the edge of the cliff and there, off to the left was a dark shape. It wasn't a rock. No large boulders rested near the brink.

Advancing with caution, she chewed her bottom lip. What evil could this be? Too small to be a dragon. Unless it was a young one.

She paused and searched the sky for an immense flying animal. No need to irritate the mother and risk death or worse. A dragon’s fire burned flesh and killed bodies. But the touch of Ayrradex’s breath caused dark evilness to fill a person's soul and neither she nor the abbot could free them from the wickedness.

The abbot, Father Jacobus, prayed for their souls to be released from their perversion, but to no avail. Derry's attempt to heal the sickness was thwarted by her being chased from the village by an angry mob. Derry shuddered at the thought of those who lived in Baswich who were dead, yet not dead.

She inched her way closer until she could distinguish the form. It was a man. She scurried over, tossed her basket behind her then dropped to her knees beside his crumpled body. His eyes were closed and his face slack. One arm lay thrust out at an odd angle and his right leg was tucked under his left. The glow of the sun’s light cast a golden sheen to his brow. Derry placed her palm on his chest.

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s latest fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.

A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.

Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his fathers kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child - dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.

Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.

Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.

Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?

When the threats rise, how will Birley keep his children safe and convince Harmony to give love another chance?

Excerpt

Dear God. His heart slammed harder. He’d died and gone to Heaven.

Harmony stretched her arms above her head and danced in the middle of the living room. Her hips pulsated with the beat of the music. Twisty locks of her hair bounced around her shoulders. She winked, then glided her hands across her breasts and stomach, daring his gaze to follow.

Birley licked his lips. The organ pressing against his zipper throbbed. Sweat slicked his nape. He dropped his scarf beside her purse, jacket, and beanie on the coffee table.

“Dance with me?”

Her husky entreaty ricocheted through him like a ping-pong ball. How could he deny her? He gripped her waist. She slid her arms around him. They swayed, their bodies a scant inch apart. She nuzzled his neck, her breath fanning his skin. His hair prickled. The air crackled around them. He shuddered and held her tighter.

“I’ve missed this.”

His chest heaved. He struggled to fill his lungs with air. “Dancing?”

“Dancing with you.” Harmony stroked his clean-shaven jaw. “I’m sorry things didn’t work out with you and Susannah, but I wouldn’t trade this moment for anything.”

Oh, God. He kissed her and swept his tongue past her parting lips. Delicious. The taste of chocolate and wine clung to her breath. He nibbled and licked the smooth slope of her neck.

“Birley, yes.” She ducked her head and claimed his mouth with hers. Then she feathered kisses across his face. “I need your hands, your mouth, your scent all over me. Take me, Birley. Hard, soft, I don’t care.”

Fuck. Her breathy plea wrapped around his heart and shot blood to his groin. She eased back, drawing him with her. The wall halted her retreat, and he trapped her between it and his body. Their tongues dueled and teeth clanked. Heat sizzled through his veins and pulsed through every organ. Her body writhed against his. Was she trying to drive him mad? He snapped open the fasteners of her pants and slid his finger beneath the waistband of her insulated leggings. Silk brushed his skin, then he slipped into her warmth.

What're you gonna do? Kidnap me? The final snippet from Daryl Devore's hot billionaire romance collection - Love A Billionaire - on Weekend Writing Warriors #contemporary #romance #WeWrWa #8Sunday

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors! Where writers share an 8- 10 sentence snippet of their writing on Sunday.  Visit other participants on the list and read and comment on their 8sunday posts.

Spread the word. Twitter hashtag #8sunday.

WWW

This week's 8-10 sentences are from my Love A Billionaire Collection. This is the final snippet from this series. I will start a new book in the new year. The part after the "8" sentences is a bit long to get to the end of the scene.

Scene set - Peyton accompanies Fuschia back to her apartment.

Fuchsia dug her key out of her purse. The cab drove away. They stood on the sidewalk in silence. Oh, what the hell. Show him how a good part of the world lives. Not in fancy condos. Give him a taste of reality and see how he likes it.

She led the way into the building, up the three flights of stairs, and down the hallway, which smelled of stale smoke and rank cooking odours.

The rest

She unlocked her door and entered. Oh good. I didn't leave the place in too much of a total disaster. Crap. Is that my bra lying on the chair? She crossed the room and dropped her purse on the pink embarrassment.

Peyton stood just inside the room. "The doctor said you need to eat and sleep. And I am going to see that you do that."

Anger shot through her core. She turned to face him. "I don't need a babysitter. I'm a grown woman. I've taken care of myself this long."

"Agreed. But this is different. I feel responsible for pushing you over the edge. I want you to come home with me where I can see that you get the care you need to get better."

"No." She shook her head. "I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself."

"Wrong answer. Pack your things." His brow was dark. His mouth set in a tight line. "You are coming home with me."

Oh, so the wrong thing to say. Fuchsia straightened her shoulders and glared at him. "No, I'm not, and you can't make me."

"Uh. Yes. I can."

She crossed her arms and rested her weight on one hip. "Uh. No. You. Can't."

He exhaled an exasperated breath. "Try me."

"What're you gonna do? Kidnap me?"

"If I have to." He stepped one step closer.

If you love hot, billionaire romances, then Daryl Devoré’s collection is a must read. Three of her hottest billionaire romances bundled into one smouldering collection.

Desires - When secrets conflict with dreams, love explodes.

After a mistake by a surgeon’s scalpel shattered Fuchsia Quinn's dance career, she picked up the pieces of her life and moved forward.

Peyton Lang, having run from an impoverished neighbourhood, lives the lifestyle of a successful billionaire.

Frustrated that his current multi-million-dollar project is stalled, Peyton drops in to LEATHER-ICIOUS for a quick drink and late night entertainment. What he saw was a beautiful redhead. What he found was he wanted her.

Two O’clock with the Billionaire – Sometimes, a woman has to do what a woman has to do.

Where Derek Davenport is concerned, women only had one thing in mind: trap him into a marriage.

Unemployed and nearing financial desperation, Arianne is forced to step out of her comfort zone. With minimal hours and excellent pay, she accepts the position of courtesan to a handsome billionaire.

Their sexual antics cause emotions neither is willing to admit. Will Arianne and Derek drive each other crazy…or will they fall in love first?

Two Truths and Lie - The legend of Robin Hood and Maid Marian with a twenty-first-century twist.

As if multiple planes crashes, a car accident, and a concussion isn’t enough, carefree Byn and straight-laced billionaire, Mark clash over Byn's need for independence and Mark's struggle with guilt pushing him in the opposite direction of love. When an art forger, an art thief and a ninety-year-old woman get involved the chance for true love for Byn and Mark fades.

All is lost until a children's game is their only hope.
