An Interview with rockstar Darien Scott
What impression do you make on people when they first meet you?
How sexy I am. Actually, people tend to stand in front of me and yell – You're Darien Scott! Like, I don't know my own name.
How about after they've known you for a while?
If I can put my guard down and just be me, they'll find out I'm just a regular guy. I have my good points and bad points like everyone else.
What is your profession?
I'm an entertainer. I compose music, produce, and sing for a living.
Tell me about your best friend.
I have some great buds from high school, but at the moment I'd say, my manager, Lindon Gleason, is my best friend. He and I can sit down with a beer and talk about anything and he understands me and how to work around the pressures of my life.
Describe your ideal mate.
Someone who can accept me. Me the person, not just the rock star. She has to be able to deal with the fact that she has to share the world with me.
Part B question – does that person exist?
I didn't think so, but, happily, I was wrong.
What's the most important thing in your life?
The wall in my recording studio with the gold and platinum records, and Grammys. It tells me who and what I am and how much work it was to get where I am.
You’re thoughts on love?
Turns out being in love is not as terrifying as I thought. I can commit to one person, and I can handle one person being committed to me.
Your greatest extravagance?
Have you seen my house? I spent a stupid amount of money on it. Here's a photo of the floor in the master bathroom.
Is there anything you haven’t done that you want to do?
Raise a family. I want a home, a wife, kids, a couple of dogs. I want to be told to take the trash out. I guess what I want is a sense of normalness in my life.
Your quirky habits?
Does anybody else like tuna on peanut butter?????
What quality do you like most in a person?
Compassion. Compassion compels others to go out of their way to help people. That's a characteristic we should all encourage and develop.
What trait do you most despise?
Arrogance. Being a major celebrity, I know I can get pretty arrogant. When Yes-people are hanging around you all the time and people are constantly telling you how amazing you are – it goes to your head. I dislike it when I realize what's happening in me. I'm the same as everyone. So if I dislike arrogance in myself, I think I can despise it in others.
What are you most afraid of?
Horrible phobia about snakes. Even just thinking about them turns my stomach.
What do you value the most?
My relationship with Erika. I will fight to keep that with all my strength. She has become my core. Without her, I'm only an empty shell of a human.
Favourite food
Vodka. Can I call a drink food? Some vodkas are made from potatoes, so I'm guessing vodka can be a food.
What would you consider your perfect night out?
Staying in. Snuggling on the couch with Erika, a bowl of popcorn, a beer and binge watching something.
What was your first thought or impression when you met the person you fell in love with?
How unbelievable sexy she was. She was dressed in a pair of blue sweat pants and a yellow tank top with a dancing elephant on it. She was "real". No 6 inch heels. No make-up. No attitude. Just a woman who is comfortable in her own skin.
What would you change about the person you fell in love with?
Not even going to try answering that. If Erika reads it, I'd be in sooo much trouble.
What do you like most about the person you fell in love with?
That she fell in love with me.
What would you change about yourself?
Nothing. Sounds arrogant, I know. But the way I am – flaws and all – is what makes me me. Change anything and that makes a whole new me and who's to say that would be any better.

Erika is disheartened by the betrayal of her parents. Her father's destruction of her club and the humiliation of her mother’s drunken behaviour have her feeling down, but those are the least of her worries. She has a wedding to plan but won’t. Having been betrayed too often, she’s scared to trust Darien.
How can Erika prove to herself and Darien that she loves and trusts him? Simple. All she has to do is jump out of a plane.
