Daryl Devore's My Books. My Blog. My Posts. Talking about her latest release - a #NA #Dancer #romance - Dancing in Circles

With 17 previously books under my belt, the fun fact is Dancing in Circles, which is my latest release, is actually the first book I wrote. It was way back in high school – a couple of hundred years ago. Jump ahead – I was teaching high school and 2 of my students complained (after coming from English class) that there was nothing for them to read. Nothing about them and their lives.

So, I dug out my book and updated it, and did a bit of editing – lol. Talk about overused !!! and “ly” adverbs.

Then I dug in and did the whole submission to an agent. Found one. He was just beginning to work with me when he suffered a massive heart attack and died. So, I had to start all over again.

Found a publisher that was willing to work with me. Book was published. Yay.

Nope. Publisher then went belly up.

Ok – let’s keep trying – what else is there? Ebooks were new. My pen name – Daryl Devore – had an epublisher. I had an inkling of what was involved so I indie published the book - before indies were “cool”.

The book languished. I did get a fan email from a woman who was curious that I was claiming the book was mine – when she’d read it years ago under a different author’s name.

But trying to lead 2 writer’s lives at the same time got mind-boggling. The decision was made to move everything to my Daryl Devore pen name as of the two that was the more well-known name.

It was suggested – more than once – that I could not have such a wide range of genres – sweet romances all the way to hot romances. How would the readers know what they were getting into?

Not one who does well being told she can’t do something - I set it up on my personal blog. Books on left are sweet. Books on right are hot.

I have the sequel to this book to re-release and then one other and all my books will be under this name.

So, may I introduce – Dancing in Circles.

The lament of two teens – There’s nothing to read – was the trigger to the creation of Daryl Devore’s New Adult romance - Dancing in Circles.

One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family.

The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn leader of the notorious Shoresmen.

A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie Anderson, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert Holiday, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

But - is Julie’s love strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them? Social prejudice. Hatred. Violence. And is she willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves?

Tied to the brotherhood of his gang, Robert is torn between his duties to them and his desire to spend his life with Julie. Can circumstance even allow him to lay down his ties to the gang so that he may hold onto his newfound love?

Sacrifices must be made, but only time will tell if it is enough.

Backlist Saturday Spotlight highlights some reviews for Daryl Devore's hot urban fantasy - Love My Fate #hotread #urban #fantasy

This month I am spotlighting my hot urban fantasy - Love My Fate

Here some reviews for Love My Fate

A

This is my first erotica romance book and I was pleasantly surprised There are depths to these characters, plot, and suspense in wondering if Thall will get his Capri that I wasn’t expecting It took me a little while to get into the book, but once I got through the first few chapters which were needed to set everything up and introduce the characters, I could hardly put it down. Needless to say my family ate out a lot this week because I was too busy reading to cook. If you want a sweet, sexy, thrilling book, then I suggest you try Capri s Fate After reading this novel, I m intrigued by Ms Devore’s other novels as well

K

Ms Devore is one of my favorite authors, and she hooked me after reading Two O’clock with the Billionaire. Capri’s Fate can be described as a whimsical erotic comedy. I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading it, which is a breath of fresh air for erotic novels Her sense of humor shines through brilliantly in the characters This is definitely a magical romp that I never would have expected in a million years had I not read it myself Buy this book in the wintertime when it’s cold, dreary, and you re going out of your mind She ll take you away from it all in Love My Fate. Excellent read

H

Very sexy and entertaining.

A

I loved the story, AND Thall

Backlist Saturday Spotlight this week has Daryl Devore talking about her favourite scene in her hot urban fantasy - Love My Fate #hot #urban #contemporary #fantasy

This month I am spotlighting my hot urban fantasy - Love My Fate

This week's topic is my favourite scene in the book.

Scene set - Capri is a straight laced, go-by-the-rules business executive. She goes to a sex toy convention. Actually, she is dragged there by her friend. While she is there, she hears a voice no one else can here. At first she blames it on the champagne, but soon realizes the voice is real. And it follows her home. This is her learning to come to terms with the voice.

What makes this scene fun for me was writing a sex scene between an physical woman and a voice.

As I put my glass down, the lights dimmed, music played—from somewhere—and the bedcovers pulled back—even though I was sitting on them. A warm breath drifted across the back of my neck. Goosebumps ran up my spine and, embarrassingly, my nipples stood at attention. Flattering myself that I was handling this extremely well, I picked up my wine glass, took a big gulp and decided to grab the bull by the horns — metaphorically speaking. "Are you a ghost? Because I don't believe in ghosts."

"No, I'm a Fate."

"You mean like, let the Fates decide?"

"Yes, that would be the best interpretation for you."

I tilted my head from side to side trying to figure out where his voice was coming from. "But the Fates are women. I know my Roman? Greek? mythology."

"That is mythology. This is reality."

Lifting one eyebrow, I snorted. "I'm talking to the air and you're calling it reality?"

"The three Fates were children of the original power."

I took another sip of wine. "So you're a child of the Fates?"

"Go forth and multiply."

"You're just full of one-liners."

"Humans do not believe in us and yet they call upon us to make decisions for them. Fate made me do it. Let the Fates decide. May the force be with you."

"That's Star Wars." Great, I've got a stalker Fate with a sense of humour.

"I heard that."

Shivers slither through me as tiny spark-like feelings tickled my neck.

"We're real. We've been around since time began. That first monkey who jumped out of a tree and walked on the ground, Fate made him do it. A cousin of mine, actually."

"You're kidding!"

"Yes, I am. You humans are so gullible."

I waved my arm about. "Can I touch you? See you?"

"You would not understand our form, but I can touch you." A wave of heat slid up my leg and rippled through my belly.

"Oooh!" When my breath returned, I asked the most logical question I could think of. "Why are you here?"

"Earlier tonight you said, 'Let's see what the Fates have in store'. Well, the Fates have nothing in store for your friend, but for you…"

I picked up my wine glass and took a couple of good gulps.

"Lay back and relax. I promise I won't hurt you. I cannot. I can only provide pleasure." Something—for simplicity's sake, call it his hand—caressed my right shin.

I reacted as if my flesh had been burned—but in a good way. It wasn't pain. Curiously, maybe a little bizarrely, but there was definitely a hint of wicked in the touch.

The same sensation scorched my left shin. Part of me needed to check if my flesh was flushed and blistered, but I couldn't move. I thought if I did, I would somehow break a spell. A bead of sweat dribbled down my neck.

With a movement as soft as the brush of a feather, both hands travelled up my thighs and stopped at my hips.

Ooh!

With a swift sweep, he skimmed my body, engulfing me in his touch. My flesh tingled as goose bumps speckled my arms. The only sound I could hear was my breath as the pants escaped my lips. I opened my eyes. My body glowed from the heat.

An icy snake-touch slithered from my hips to neck. As fast as the coolness touched my body, heat filled its place.

A feverish fondle on my breast preceded a frosty streak across my neck, followed by a sizzling trail along my spine and an icy tap on my inner thigh. I couldn't focus. My heart pounded in my chest. My breath caught in my throat only to be snatched away by the next gasp. A blissful wave surged through me as I slipped into relaxed darkness.

Daryl Devore's My Books My Blog My Post This week Daryl talks about her writing genres. #DarylDevore #writer #blog #writingcommunity

So - a long time ago when I was a beginner writer, I wrote in a sweeter style romance genre. Then I joined a critique group and was working on another story when someone mentioned, I should heat the story up - cause sex sells! And then I could get established as a writer.

Ok - works for me. I did.

Then I wanted to publish the sweeter romance but was told - by those in the know - that I couldn't do it and use the same name - readers would get confused.

I published it under a different pen name. Life then got confusing - I was me (my real name), Daryl Devore (pen name 1) and Victoria Adams (pen name 2). So that meant - 3 email accts - 3 FB pages - 3 Twitter accts - 2 blogs. The real me doesn't have a blog. And whatever else.

Keeping who I was straight was crazy and I decided enough is enough. I rarely follow the "rules" of writing anyway, so I am compressing all my Victoria Adams books into my Daryl Devore name.

Devore writes hot, steamy romances. I mean HOT. Victoria wrote sweeter romance - sometimes with a teeny bit of heat. (i.e. more than a chaste kiss. But sex was always behind doors.)

And this week, the first of Victoria Adams's books being re-released under the Daryl Devore pen name has finally happened. There are 2 more to go.

This book also suffered another failure on my part. New writer issues. It was suggested to break it into 2 books.  It was a bit long, so I did. Well, like everybody else - no one pays attention to the 2nd anything in a trilogy. But what was in the 2nd book is where everything happened that caused the need for the 3rd book.

So not only have I changed the author, but I put the two books back together. Sadly, Circles Divided no longer exists. It was pulled from Amazon.

Now there is a duology - Dancing in Circles and the June or July release of Circles Interlocked.
