A Bit of History Today on Fridays in Space #FridaysinSpace #space

Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director Dr. William Pickering, Dr. James van Allen of the State University of Iowa, and Army Ballistic missionile Agency Technical Director Dr. Wernher von Braun triumphantly display a model of the Explorer I, America's first satellite, shortly after the satellite's launch on January 31, 1958. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory packed and tested the payload, a radiation detection experiment designed by Dr. van Allen. Dr. von Braun's rocket team at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, developed the Juno I launch vehicle, a modified Jupiter-C.

Today I'm thinking about Spelling Typos #idlethoughts #shouldbewriting

I've decided to use this fun little animation because it's fun. Life doesn't always have to be serious.
Today's topic - silly little spelling mistakes/typos. How annoying are they?!?!

I have 4 that drive me crazy. Some I can catch and some my cp and beta find. I know how to spell these annoying words, but my fingers don't!

What are these drive-me-crazy bugaboos? The - teh -- Teh cat sat on teh table. Luckily my speller checker points it out.

Going - goin g -- I am goin gto the store. For the life of me, I can't attach the second g to the proper word. Another spell checker catch.

From - form -- I brought it form home. Or - I brought the form form home. Spell checker doesn't catch that and it seems to stump my grammar checker.

Lastly and I have to apologize deeply to my cp - she suffered through this one on the last book Slid - slide. She slide on the ice. She slide her hand on the railing. All I can say is - ARGHHHHH.

Thank heavens for spell checker and cps.
Do you have a cp you'd like to give a shout out to for catching the silly little mistakes?

(Initials are fine if you don't want to mention them - M.R and C.R. for me.)

A view from above showing the abort motor for Orion's Launch Abort System #Orion #NASA #Space #FridaysinSpace

A view from above shows the abort motor for Orion's Launch Abort System (LAS) secured on a work stand inside the Launch Abort System Facility on Aug. 28, 2018, at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This motor will be used for flight during a full-stress test of the LAS, called Ascent Abort-2 (AA-2) flight test, scheduled for April 2019. The abort motor is what will activate to pull the Orion crew module away during the event of an emergency during ascent. AA-2 will launch from SLC 46, carrying a fully functional LAS and a 22,000-pound Orion test vehicle to an altitude of 31,000 feet and traveling at more than 1,000 miles an hour. The test will verify the LAS can steer the crew module and astronauts aboard to safety in the event of an issue with the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket when the spacecraft is under the highest aerodynamic loads it will experience during a rapid climb into space. NASA's Orion and Exploration Ground Systems programs and contractors from Jacob's and Northrup Grumman in conjunction with the Air Force Space and Missile Center's Launch Operations branch are performing flight operations for AA-2.

A silly question on this week's blog #shouldbewriting

This week - I'm asking 3 questions.

If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavour, what would it be?
Animal
I'm sitting here looking at my daughter's 2 cats and my kitten and  this answer is easy - a domesticated, pampered house cat.
 Drink -
I don't drink alcohol - never developed a taste for it. I've tried beer, wine, whiskey etc - my standard response is - yuck. So I'm always the DD - designated driver. What I've noticed is that bars often are rude to non-drinkers. A glass of Diet Coke costs more than a beer. So I've taken to ordering a Diet Coke with a shot of rum on the side - it's cheaper!!! I give the shot away and drink the properly priced Diet Coke.
Being too lazy to get up (cell phone is on table across the room) and take a photo of the can sitting next to me - I took this photo off the Coke site.  Coke - consider it free advertising.
Ice Cream Flavour -
Well this one is a toughy. Everyone who knows me is going to guess I'm going to say chocolate. That'd be too easy. I'm caught between Coconut or Maple Walnut. The coconut I've only eaten once. It was when we were vacationing in the Cayman Islands. We discovered this tiny ice cream shop that had the most fabulous ice cream.
But on the other hand - maple walnut is comfort food.
Maple Walnut it is!

What are your favourites?

November 11, 2018 Remembrance Day - One Minute of Silence to Be Observed To Honour The Fallen. #IwillStand. #RemembranceDay #Poppy #Canadian

 Aaron Kilbourn
"The dead soldier's silence sings our national anthem."

John McCrae
"In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below."

Adrienne Clarkson
"We only need to look at what we are really doing in the world and at home and we'll know what it is to be Canadian."

5 Musings of a hot romance author #shouldbewriting

1. We do a lot of research - A LOT of research. (Cause we get to look at kinky fun stuff and claim it's for work)

2. We don't let little kids near our computers when we are writing.

3. Did I mention we do a lot of fun research.

4. We always make sure our browser history is cleared before letting the IT guy check the computer.

5. People tend to get all flustered and turn red when an erotic writer looks them in the eye and says, "I'm an erotic romance writer. I write hot sexy stuff."

I'm betting you thought this was going to be all about sex. LoL

Cool things in space - NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft saw the moon transit the Sun two times. #NASA #Space #FridaysinSpace

In just about seven hours, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft saw the moon transit the Sun two times (Sept. 9-10, 2018). Transits occur when an object passes between a larger body and the viewer. The first transit lasted about an hour and covered 92 percent of the Sun at its peak. The second transit lasted about 50 minutes and covered just 34 percent of the Sun at its peak. The Moon appears to go in one direction in the first transit and the opposite direction in the second. This is because the SDO spacecraft orbits around Earth, moving in the same direction as the Moon but faster. On the first transit it catches up with and passes the Moon. As SDO swings back around the far side of Earth, it encounters the Moon again from the far side of Earth, where it appears to travel in the opposite direction. The images were taken in a wavelength of extreme ultraviolet light. None of this was visible from Earth. Movies are available at https://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA22723
