This week's 8-10 sentences are from my medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon
Scene set – Hawkyns is chatting with the Abbot. He is confused about the vision he saw when he first arrived in this new village. Remember – he doesn’t know how he got there. The 2 men suspect he was dropped by a dragon. Hawkyns speaks first.
“I saw… an angel. She placed her hands on me. The pain vanished.”
The abbot raised his hand to pause their conversation. He walked to a monk who waited nearby, spoke to him then returned. He settled himself on the bench. “No, my son, I am sorry, truly sorry, but ye did not see an angel.”
“But her halo.” Hawkyns circled his head with his hand. “A circle of gold behind her. Like the paintings in our abbey at Penrythe.”
A wee bit more
The abbot rested his hands on his lap. “The lass is Derry. She is a healer. She has powers. Ones given by God.” He made the sign of the cross and returned his hand to his lap. “I heal souls and relieve minds. She can heal bodies.”
She is mortal? A familiar stirring woke inside Hawkyns; a feeling absent since the day of his wife’s death.
