I am a lover of print books. I am of an age where holding the physical book is an integral part of the reading experience.
I am - also - a person willing to move forward and accept - if not completely embrace - technology. Therefore, I publish and read ebooks.
And while audio books are no "new", the thought of having one of my books turned into an audio book never crossed my mind.
I don't remember what the trigger was that made me investigate Audible's ACX. I posted the required audition and thought - "Well, that's that."
I never - I HONESTLY never dreamt anyone would audition. Several did and I selected Joseph Collins. His voice for Prince Hawkyns is perfect.
Now, I try to do everything with the least expense. I am not a well known author rolling in royalties.
But ACX has a "share the royalties" option. If I sell no books - ACX and Joseph (and I) get no royalties. If I sell a million copies - we're laughing all the way to the bank. And I am quite willing and happy to share.
So, Joseph and I agreed to work together. I went through The Last Dragon and listed all the characters. What an amazing thing to do. I had no idea I had created that many. I listed their age-ish and gender and if there was something specific to help him create the voice for that person.
Abbot Jacobs - elderly, religious man
Pariset - 16 yr old, male
He did a short reading and the sample was sent to me to approve or request changes. I approved.
Then the magic day happened. I was sent an email stating all the chapters were ready to me approved. The story takes over 8 hrs to listen through - but I cleared my schedule and settled back.
It was so much fun listening to the story. Joseph did an amazing job bringing the characters to life.
Now the audio book is out there for all to enjoy. So grab a copy and settle back and get lost in the wonderful medieval world of Prince Hawkyns and Derry's romance and quest to slay the demon- dragon.

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.
A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.
Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his father’s kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child - dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.
Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.
Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.
Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?
